Most people experience little discomfort. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, and your practitioner will work carefully to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.
Acupuncture needles are much thinner than the needles commonly used for injections or blood draws.
You may feel a brief sensation when a needle is inserted, followed by sensations such as heaviness, warmth, tingling or relaxation. Everyone experiences acupuncture differently.
If you are new to acupuncture or feeling nervous, let us know. We can explain each step and help you feel comfortable throughout your visit.
Every person is different. During your first visit, we will discuss your concerns and health history and determine whether acupuncture is an appropriate part of your care.
You do not need to understand acupuncture before coming in.
Just tell us what you are experiencing, and we will guide you through the process.
Treatment time can vary depending on your individual needs. Your first visit generally includes additional time for consultation and assessment.
There is no single treatment schedule that is right for everyone. Your recommended treatment frequency depends on your symptoms, goals and individual response to treatment.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the areas being treated. If you are unsure, our team can help you prepare for your visit.
It is generally helpful to have eaten normally before your appointment rather than arriving very hungry. Avoid coming immediately after a very heavy meal.
Your first visit is more than simply receiving acupuncture. We begin by taking time to understand you and the reason you are seeking care.
We discuss your main concerns, symptoms, health history and treatment goals.
Your practitioner evaluates your condition and considers the information gathered during your consultation to develop an individualized treatment approach.
If acupuncture is appropriate, very fine, sterile, single-use needles are gently inserted at selected acupuncture points based on your individual needs.
You will have time to rest comfortably during the treatment. Many people find acupuncture sessions calming and relaxing.
After your treatment, your practitioner may discuss recommendations for follow-up care, lifestyle considerations or other therapies that may complement your treatment.
